My Sister Invited 47 People to My Beach House—Then I Found Her Hidden Plan
Paige refunded part of the reunion money right away. The rest came back in installments after her attorney got involved. The old rentals were harder to untangle, but payment records and guest messages established that there had been four paid weekends. Paige repaid the rental income and covered the cleaning and lock costs. My mother paid part of it too. They also signed an agreement acknowledging they had no authority to offer the property to anyone again.
We filed a report about the false ownership document. Our lawyer handled the rest of those conversations. I wanted a clear record of what had happened, but I did not want to spend every morning waiting for another message from Paige.
My mother called once after the repayments began. She said she had never intended to hurt Milo or me. I told her she had known the house was ours, and she had let strangers into it anyway. She was quiet for a long time. Then she said she was sorry.
I believed she was sorry. I wasn’t ready to give her a key.
By late August, the house felt like ours again. Ethan repaired a loose board on the walkway. I washed every sheet, even the ones I knew nobody had touched. Milo asked to choose new bedding for her room, and we spent an entire Saturday picking out a quilt with little yellow suns on it.
That evening, we ate sandwiches on the porch. The gate stayed closed, and no one called to ask for the code. Milo went down the boardwalk ahead of us, stopping at the end to wait where the sand began.
Ethan held out his hand to me. I took it, and we walked down together.
